Out of hundreds of entries, a select number of households across the capital have embarked on a mission starting this week to see who can divert the most waste from their black bin to their green and brown bins!

Some of the competing households currently have quite heavy black bins. All of this waste goes directly to landfill.

We believe that by focusing on proper waste segregation during the competition, they will be able to lower their black bin weights considerably.

Last year’s winners, a family from Ballyfermot said that they owed the success to their son Jack.

“We have been going through our waste like forensic scientists. Really cutting back and being super conscious of our food waste. Our son Jack is the main monitor of our household waste, making sure we all recycle more! We wish all the contestants the best of luck in this competition!”
