Call for Gardai to protect bin crews

Greyhound Household, Ireland’s largest household waste collector, has called for Garda assistance to protect collection crews from coming under attack by residents in some areas of Dublin.
Recently, a man was sentenced to two years in jail for assaulting Greyhound collection staff.

Video footage below of incidents where collection staff suffered threats , intimidation and assault. In a number of cases, residents impeded the collection truck so they could tip large amounts of black bins into the green bin vehicle.

Protect bin crews, anti social behavior

Greyhound’s Managing Director, John Brosnan, said: ” Our crews are experiencing an increase in threatening behaviour. We have a duty of care to the health and safety of our employees We have reported the incidents to Gardai and also hope for assistance from local representatives. However, we may be forced to consider suspending collections on some roads. We are calling on people to respect our crews while they do a difficult job”
