Fighting Food Waste – Irish brands making a difference
At Greyhound Recycling, we’re always on the lookout for brands that help reduce waste and promote sustainability. That’s why we’re highlighting the impressive achievements of Aldi Ireland’s partnership with Too Good To Go, which recently celebrated its second anniversary fighting food waste. This collaboration is a shining example of how businesses can make a real impact in the fight against food waste—a mission we share at Greyhound Recycling.
Two Years of Impact
Over the past two years, Aldi Ireland and Too Good To Go have saved more than 500,000 ‘Magic Bags’ of food from going to waste. This incredible milestone equates to 1,250 tonnes of food rescued and more than 3,125 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions prevented.
As a company that specialises in composting, we know that keeping food waste out of the bin is essential for the environment. The positive impact of this partnership aligns with our own business goal – to turn waste into valuable resource.
How It Works
The Too Good To Go app allows shoppers to purchase surplus food at a discounted price from 157 Aldi stores across Ireland. Each ‘Magic Bag’ offers a selection of perfectly good food that might otherwise go to waste. It’s a simple yet powerful idea that benefits both the environment and local communities. Saving money and food from going to waste.
At Greyhound Recycling, we are equally committed to making sure food waste is put to good use. When our customers use their brown bins for food waste, they can be confident they’re doing their bit for the planet. That’s because we transform food scraps into nutrient-rich, chemical-free soils that help farms and gardens thrive.
Closing the Loop on Food Waste
Ireland generates approximately 770,000 tonnes of food waste every year, with almost half coming from households. By using your brown bin correctly, you contribute to a circular economy where organic waste is not just disposed of but reborn as a valuable resource. At Greyhound Recycling, our composting process ensures that nothing goes to waste. Instead, your food scraps become healthy soils that support agriculture and green spaces throughout Ireland.
Fighting Food Waste Together
We’re proud to highlight the positive impact of businesses and individuals who share our commitment to sustainability.
When you choose Greyhound Recycling, you’re not just getting rid of waste—you’re helping to nurture a greener, healthier planet for future generations.
