Christmas & Bank Holiday Bin Collection — What Changes

Bin collections don’t run to the normal weekly schedule around Christmas and other bank holidays — almost every provider in Dublin shifts collection days during these periods, which is one of the most common reasons for a “missed” collection that isn’t actually missed at all.

Why the schedule changes

When a bank holiday falls on a Monday, we always collect the bins as scheduled. The only time we may change is around Christmas; this is the biggest disruption of the year, since Christmas Day and St. Stephen’s Day both fall in the same week for most households.

How to check your revised schedule

  • Check the Greyhound app or your online account — revised dates are published in advance of the holiday period
  • Watch for email/whatsapp/sms reminders the evening before a revised collection day
  • Download your calendar online.
  • Stay tuned to our social media accounts.
  • If in doubt, ask our chatbot or contact customer care directly rather than assuming your normal day still applies

FAQ

Will my bin still be collected on Christmas Day or St. Stephen’s Day?

No — collections don’t run on these dates. Your collection is moved to an alternative day, which will be communicated in advance.

How do I find out my revised collection day?

Check the app, your online account, or wait for the text reminder sent the evening before your revised collection.

Can I put out extra waste at Christmas?

Some flexibility is usually allowed for the increased volume over the holiday period — check your specific plan’s allowance.
