Dear Customers,

Greyhound Household welcomes the introduction of the new legislation from the Department of Environment Community and Local Government and the National Waste Collection Permit Office. “A Resource Opportunity – A Waste Management Policy for Ireland” which will come into effect on 1st July, 2015 will ensure that all domestic waste customers will have a clear and consistent service that they will be able to influence through the correct segregation and recycling of all household waste into the correct colour of bins.

The four key points of this new legislation are:

  1. The introduction of mandatory pay by weight (per kilogram) charging that will cover the cost of bulking, processing, transfer and treatment across all waste streams.
  2. A statutory introduction of a customer charter ensuring enhanced customer service standards across waste collectors.
  3. More consistent service levels across the waste industry, including minimum service levels.
  4. A more responsive enforcement framework to drive compliance, level the playing field and drive the serially non-complaint out of the industry.

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:

  1. NO DOMESTIC WASTE COLLECTOR WILL BE ALLOWED TO COLLECT DOMESTIC WASTE AFTER 1ST JULY, 2015 UNLESS THEY ARE EMPLOYING A PAY BY WEIGHT SYSTEM ACROSS THEIR CUSTOMER BASE.

  1. ALL CUSTOMERS REGARDLESS OF PAYMENT OR SERVICE PLAN THEY ARE CURRENTLY ON OR THE DURATION OF THOSE PAYMENT PLANS (I.E. EVEN IF THOSE PLANS RUN BEYOND 1ST JULY, 2015) MUST BE CHARGED ON A PAY BY WEIGHT BASIS FROM 1ST JULY, 2015.

This means that if your current waste provider has sold you a service or payment plan that goes beyond 1st July, 2015 and have not organised a contingency to switch you to pay by weight then they could be at risk of non-compliance with the new legislation and potentially not be able to collect your bins.

Greyhound Household have been using pay  by weight for over three years and are well prepared and capable of catering for all of your needs in terms of complying with the new legislation.
