Keelings has announced today that it has officially removed black plastic, which is not currently recyclable in Ireland, from its entire product range.

The fruit grower said that it is is committed to making continuous sustainability improvements across all of its its packaging.

“As a family-business, we are conscious we make the right decision when it comes to packaging our berries,” David Keeling, managing director of Keelings said.

Missed By Scanners

He highlighted that the electronic scanners in recycling plants have a ‘hard time seeing black plastic’, so it can be missed and end up in landfill, and so the company has removed all black plastic from its product range.

“This solution is an important step in the right direction, and is part of a wider packaging sustainability strategy that benefits both our environment, and our customers,” Keeling added.

All plastic punnets within the Keelings range are ‘100% recyclable’ and are available across Irish food retailers nationwide.
