Greyhound recycling is now a member of Guaranteed Irish and in doing so we have been recognized as a company that supports local communities, provides sustainable jobs and shares the same commitment to Irish provenance.

The truth is, although Greyhound has not been an official member of the Guaranteed Irish community until recently, we have been practising the same values for decades.

  • Supports local communities

Greyhound is a second-generation Irish family business. Founded more than 40 years ago, Bernard & Maura Buckley started the business with one truck and a lot of ambition. A lot has changed since that first bin truck, but our commitment to our community has been resolute.

Tidy Towns: Greyhound Recycling is a long-time supporter of the Tidy Towns initiative, a nationwide competition that encourages neighbours to work together to make their community a better place. In recent years, we have supported Tidy Towns competitions throughout the Dublin area including events in Clondalkin, Swords, Terenure and Dun Laoghaire.

Sporting engagements: We believe in the power of sport to help develop Dublin’s youth and teach values such as  fairness, team building, discipline, inclusion, perseverance and respect. For many years, we have provided support in the shape of financial aid and clean-up services for several local clubs including Terenure College Rugby football club as well as

Knockmitten Football club.

Charitable Support: ‘Generosity’ is one of our corporate pillars, and at times that includes providing financial aid to support the good work of both Irish and international charities. In recent years we have donated to the Children’s Health Foundation to support sick children and their families in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals, UNICEF for their humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide, as well as the SCOOP Foundation in their work to help train and prepare displaced newcomers – from war-torn countries like Ukraine, Syria and Iran – for a more successful life in Ireland.

  • Provides quality jobs

The Greyhound Group (Greyhound Recycling, Greyhound Commercial and Ecomondis) employs approximately 224 people across our group. That includes providing meaningful, year-round unionised employment to our hardworking collection crew as well as a multitude of highly skilled roles in Logistics, Sales, Customer Support, Finance, HR, Marketing as well as Data Analytics.

More, employees at Greyhound recycling get to work in an industry that plays a pivotal role in shaping Ireland’s circular economy.

  • Commitment to Irish provenance.

Whenever possible, we seek to work with local, Irish-owned businesses. Supporting local just makes sense; it ensures more of our money stays in our communities by providing jobs, and local products generating taxes to support essential local utilities and services.

Here’s a small sample of some of the Irish businesses we are proud to partner with:

Natural World Products: We work with NWP to convert our customers’ organic brown bin waste – think garden clippings and kitchen scraps – into a dark, rich high-quality organic compost. With the help of our conscientious household customers, we are making a positive impact – one tonne of compost applied to a garden/ land locks carbon up in the soil and keeps the equivalent of 375kgs of CO2 out of the atmosphere.

Irish Metal Refineries: A specialist in processing and recycling of non-ferrous metals, precious metals, car catalysts and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment),  we partner with Irish Metals to ensure the metal waste we recover is recycled to the highest security and compliance with industry standards with full traceability.

Leinster Environmentals: is also an Irish-owned family business and Ireland’s industry-leading plastics recycling specialists. The scrap & waste plastic we collect from household and commercial customers is transformed into a high-quality plastic pellets and a second life as a new product.

Hope Coffee Van: We recently hosted an early morning coffee event with our collection crew before the start of their day. We chose to work with Hope Coffee, not only are they a local business they also care about the environment and have built a tree planting program into their business model.

CloudForests: This Dublin-based business is driving change through an innovative forestry programme. CloudForest – through their CoolPartner programme – offer leading Irish brands the opportunity to support forest conservation projects along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. The twist? With the help of HD live streaming technologies, brands and their community of employees can get a front seat watching plants and animals thrive in these protected environments.

Conclusion

Greyhound Recycling is proud to be Irish and is delighted to become a member of the Guaranteed Irish community. We, too, celebrate the ‘resilience, innovation and success of Irish businesses and agree that if we are to grow our communities and sustain our economy we are #AllTogetherBetter.
