Greyhound Recycling Joins DIY SOS to Help Transform Cayden’s Home
At Greyhound Recycling, giving back to our community is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we were honoured to support DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland as they took on a life-changing project for a very special young boy named Cayden.
Meet Cayden
Nine-year-old Cayden lives with his Mam Sinead, Dad Ronald, and 15-year-old brother Ethan in a terraced home in Ireland. Born with a condition called Arthrogryposis – which affects his hands and feet – and also living with scoliosis, Cayden requires ongoing medical care and multiple surgeries each year.
Cayden uses a wheelchair full-time, but his home wasn’t designed for his needs. Narrow doorways, no downstairs toilet, and an inaccessible layout meant he was confined to the living room, or had to shuffle on the floor to move around. He had to be carried upstairs to access his bedroom and the bathroom.
His Occupational Therapist recommended home adaptations — including widened doorways, a downstairs bedroom and accessible bathroom, and a ramp to enter the home — but the costs were simply too great for the family to manage alone.
Community in Action
That’s where DIY SOS stepped in — bringing together volunteers, tradespeople, suppliers, and local support to make this transformation happen.
Greyhound Recycling proudly donated skip hire and waste removal services to support the build, helping keep the project clean and moving on schedule.
