Greyhound Recycling’s Brown Bin Rollout
Greyhound Recycling’s brown bin rollout will be starting in the coming weeks. Why are we doing this? We’re helping our customers to manage their waste responsibly. In accordance with the latest European Legislation S.I. No. 679/2023 – European Union (Household Food Waste and Bio-Waste) (Amendment) Regulations 2023, it’s now a legal requirement for all households to have and use a Brown bin for food waste. This blog post explains the importance of this change.
Brown Bin Rollout – Why You Need a Brown Bin
The new regulations make it illegal to dispose of food waste in your Black or Green bin. Food waste is to be separated from other types of waste so it can be composted properly. Moreover, if you do not use a Brown bin, you must either compost at home or bring your food waste to a licensed facility.
Benefits of Using a Brown Bin
- Reduces General Waste: By separating food waste, you’ll rely less on your general waste bin, potentially reducing the frequency of waste collections.
- Better for the Environment: Composting food waste helps reduce emissions from landfill site and incinceration, contributing to a healthier planet.
- Nourishes the Soil: Your food waste is turned into compost, enriching the soil and promoting plant growth.
