What to Do If Your Bin Wasn’t Collected

It happens — a bin gets missed on collection day. Before you assume the worst, run through a few quick checks, most of which resolve the issue without needing to contact anyone.

Check these first

  • Was the bin out on time? Collections start from 6am, so a bin put out at 7am may have already been missed by the truck on that street.
  • Was the lid fully closed? Overfilled bins with the lid propped open are often skipped, since crews can’t safely lift them.
  • Is there anything blocking access? Parked cars, skips, or scaffolding on the road can mean a truck can’t reach your bin that day.
  • Did you check the right day? Bank holidays and Christmas shift the schedule — check your calendar in the app if a holiday fell earlier that week.

How to report it

If none of the above explains it, report the missed collection through the Greyhound app, our online chat, or by calling our household team on 01 457 7777. Include your address and the date of the missed collection — this is logged and a crew will typically return to complete the collection.

What happens next

Once reported, a return collection is usually arranged within 2-3 working days. If you can’t wait, and the item is urgent, a local recycling centre or civic amenity site can take it directly in the meantime — see your collection calendar for your nearest option.

FAQ

Why wasn’t my bin collected even though I put it out on time?

The most common reasons are an overfilled bin, contamination (wrong items in the wrong bin), or access being blocked on your street that day.

How long does it take for a missed bin to be collected once reported?

Typically within 2-3 working days of reporting, depending on route scheduling.

Will I be charged for a missed collection?

No — a genuinely missed collection due to crew error is collected without additional charge.
