Dublin’s Recycling Champions for 2014 have been announced.

The O’Connell family from Ballyfermot have emerged as winners of the €1,000 prize! The recycling habits of households from across Dublin that entered the competition, were monitored over a two month period.

The objective of the Recycling Champion 2014 contest, organised by Greyhound Household was to move as much waste from the household black bin into the green and brown bins.

Tony and Michelle O’Connell ably assisted by their ten-year-old son Jack managed to transfer nearly 70 kilos of waste from their black bin to their green bin!

Greyhound CEO, Michael Buckley said: “Our Recycling Champion 2014 competition is part of Greyhound’s strategy to encourage recycling by all of our customers, ahead of new legislation due to come into force next year. This government legislation is aimed at increasing recycling nationwide. Greyhound has also announced extra customer support to help people improve their knowledge on how to create a sustainable recycling household. I would like to congratulate and thank the O’Connell family for showing us how it’s done.”
