Green Bin Contamination

Green Bin Contamination

Green Bin Contamination A Step by Step Guide

The issue of contamination in green bins is a growing problem within the Irish market. Greyhound have introduced numerous incentives to encourage customers to use all 3 bins through segregation but for some, contamination remains a constant issue.

We know that we can’t be perfect all the time & that is why we will never issue a fine without prior warning. Our aim to to educate rather than to impose fines on customers.

The steps in the contamination process are as follows:

  • Bins are monitored over a period of 6 months
  • The customer is issued with a letter addressing the concerns with the bin & a list of what can go in the bin. (No fine is applied)
  • If contamination is discovered again the customer is issued with a fine. This is sent by letter, images of the contamination are available upon request.
  • This however is not final, if the customer has a valid reason to appeal the fine they can do so within 14 days. All cases are looked at by our dedicated appeals team.

Some of the items that have been discovered in the bins include: A pet dog, a live turtle, food waste, uncleaned take away containers, sanitary products, nappies, clothing, concrete blocks, power-showers, bicycles etc.

We have released a safety series around what can and cannot go in the bins which is available in our news section.
